Surgery at Dogwood Veterinary Hospital begins with a consultation with our veterinarians to determine the best procedure for your pet. We provide pre-anesthetic labwork to identify any metabolic abnormalities before your animal undergoes surgery. Our veterinary team administers pre-medications to keep your pet relaxed and allows us to use a lower dose of anesthetic gas. We provide pain management before, during, and after the procedure. Your pet will be prepared for surgery using aseptic technique, and the doctors follow sterile protocols during every procedure. A technician will monitor your pet’s vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, body temperature) during the procedure, and a technician is dedicated to your pet’s recovery and comfort while they are in the hospital.

Whenever applicable, our veterinarians use a CO2 surgical laser as a replacement for the surgical blade to decrease bleeding and bruising, minimize pain, help speed healing time, and can be used for most surgical procedures. If surgery has been recommended for your pet, please consider this important option! Ask us for more information.
