Hi! I’m Dr. Amanda Schmidt, and I’m excited to be part of this team and community.
My journey in veterinary medicine began in 2006 when I became a Registered Veterinary Technician. I spent four years working in general practice at Dogwood, followed by four years in emergency medicine. Those eight years gave me invaluable experience in both routine and critical care and confirmed my desire to grow even further in this field. I went on to attend the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2017.
Professionally, I have a special interest in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and preventive medicine. I strive to practice the best medicine possible while providing excellent, compassionate patient care. Clear communication is incredibly important to me—I want pet owners to feel informed, understood, and confident when making healthcare decisions for their pets.
I am especially passionate about stress-free handling and effective pain management. Veterinary medicine has grown tremendously over the past decade, and I’m proud to be part of a profession that is doing a better job recognizing health concerns earlier and addressing anxiety and pain in animals with greater awareness and care.
Outside of work, I love to travel and explore new places—especially national parks! My husband and I have a goal of visiting all fifty states. When I’m at home, I enjoy spending time with my family and my own pets. I share my life with five cats and three dogs, who keep things lively and full of love.
Fun fact: I think dinosaurs are absolutely fascinating and love visiting museums and places where you can see dinosaur bones. If you have a favorite dinosaur, I’m always happy to chat about it!
